Minis & Socials
Besides the four major annual tournaments, and our weekly Tuesday internals, there remain a number of other opportunities to get involved in debating. These include 'Minis' (small weekend debating tournaments that are held by various debating societies), as well as socials run by ANU Debating. Both of these provide excellent opportunities for students to make new friends from the university and across the debating circuit.
MinisMinis are weekend-long debating tournaments held throughout the year by different university debating societies. Whilst technically competitions, minis are typically far more relaxed than any major tournament, and students needn't trial or debate in teams representing their university. Minis are a great opportunity to get a feel for competitive debating, and to meet other students from around Australia.
The ANU Debating Society runs four seasonal minis per year: ANU Summer, ANU Fall, ANU Winter, and ANU Spring. The Australian Debating Calendar contains the dates of upcoming tournaments, and can be accessed here. |
SocialsThe ANU Debating Society run a number of socials throughout the year to allow our members to meet and interact. We run a broad range of events to suit everybody's preferences, including BBQs, games nights, movie nights, dinners, balls, and house parties.
We are one of the largest societies on campus, and as such our social events provide an excellent opportunity to make a huge range of new friends across the university. |
