Hope you’ve all enjoyed the public holiday, and are keen for internals tomorrow at 6pm! Don’t forget that, as ever, internals are happening on Tuesday and Friday. We will be debating in regular teams this term – if you haven’t signed up for a team yet then let us know!
Another cool thing that’s happening are Australs trials. The Australasian Debating Championship (affectionately known as Australs) is happening on July 13th – 21st in Perth. Teams from universities all around Asia will be attending the week-long tournament. Australs is a high-quality and high-intensity competition – it is also a lot of fun! Registration is $770 plus the cost of flights to Perth (we are trying to get your flights to Perth subsidised though, but no guarantees at the moment).
We’ll be trialling teams on Sunday May 8th, but don’t worry if you can’t make this date because you can also trial by recording a debate on Saturday May 7th. You will need to do two debates to trial, so it is best if you are available for the whole day. There will be a sign-up form coming out soon!
ORDINARY GENERAL MEETING
Next Tuesday before internals (at 6pm) we will be holding our OGM. At the meeting we will be electing two first-year representatives and also a socials officer. These positions are great experience and a good chance to get an insight into the way the debating society is run, so come along to apply and vote!
See you soon,
I hope you’ve all had a very restful break and are keeeeen for uni to go back next week!
Debating will be back this TUESDAY and FRIDAY, and it’s the same drill as last term. In case you’ve forgotten, that means:
When: 6pm every Tuesday
Where: The Tank (near Copland Courtyard)
What: A training session, dinner, and then a practice debate. This is for people who have had experience debating in the past! If you've done more than one year of high school practice, please come to this event. Don't worry, it's not high pressure, it's just for people who already know the rules.
When: 6pm every Friday
Where: Manning Clark Centre
What: A training session and dinner. If you've debated for one year or less, come along to this session. If you have more experience and still want to come, please send us an email or a message and we can talk about the most appropriate group for you to be in.
Hope to see you there!
Hope you're all enjoying the mid-sem break! If you're missing your weekly dose of debating then don't worry, we have a new novice tournament coming up this weekend called ANU Cup.
The tournament is being run on the 16-17th of April (THIS WEEKEND). How does it work? Teams will be made up entirely of novices. The first round of registration is only for people who did not go to Easters. The second round s for people who did go to Easters but are still novices. There will be no pros debating, pros are only allowed to adjudicate.
