ANU Debating - Week 12

5/27/2017

Hi All,

Thanks for taking on this journey with us over the past 12 weeks! We truly appreciate the passion and dedication you have shown to us.

Internal Grand Final next week
We are hosting a non-serious grand final for our internals next Tuesday. There may be alcohol and joke topics to kill the stress for exams. The event is completely voluntary - we have not invited anyone officially, so there is no pressure to attend. You have done the heavy lifting of practice debates over the past weeks, and you are not missing out on anything substantive if you choose to not attend.

That said, please feel free to click join on the event page and do the poll about what you want to see at the Grand Final: https://www.facebook.com/events/1374028616015330/?active_tab=about

Attached are the training materials from last week on case construction.

Thank you again for all your support over the semester & hope to see you again next term :)

Cheers,
Julia

ANU Debating Week 11 Update

5/13/2017

Hi All,

Hope you are all surviving as the exams approach! We know it is a huge time commitment for you to stay engaged with debating while keeping up with work, so thank you to all who had attended internals over this semester.

Below are the updates for the coming week:
First-year forum
You have elected Tandee and Amelia as your First-Year Representatives, so now it is your chance to speak with them about how you find debating so far, and how you would like debating to go from here.

Tandee and Amelia are organising the First-Year Forum this year, which will happen next Tuesday at 6 pm in instead of training. This is an exclusive event for first-years at our Society, so you can speak freely without the pressuring stare of older-year debaters. Afterwards, Tandee and Amelia will summarise your representations and report them at the next committee meeting.

(I heard there might be pides, so that is a good incentive)

Australs trial
The trial is happening next weekend. If you are interested in going to Australs, you should fill out the sign-up form (this is NOT the EOI form you filled out a while ago).

If you are not going, but you want some practice outside internals, you can also sign up there, and just note in the comment section that you would like to use it as a training opportunity :)

If you would like to use a video trial because you are unable to make it to the trial dates (20-21 May next weekend), there is a form you can fill out linked below.

Remember that although the registration fee is $770, we have scholarships on both merits and equity.

Movie Night
Sharmila would like to see all of you on Movie Night (an annual social we have) next Friday 19 May. I heard the movie this time is going to be spicy :o.

Women's Mentorship Program
Our Society has started a new round of intake for non-cis-male identifying mentorship. Eli has created this comprehensive EOI form you can use to request for a senior non-cis-male identifying member of our Society to mentor you for debating. Activities range from catching up for coffees and serious extra training outside internals. And the good thing about our program is its flexibility - it is completely up to you what you would like to do in the program. And we will match you with a mentor who best meets your demands.

Internal
Happy to see all of you there at last week's internal, please join us again this week on Tuesday at 7 pm in MCCT6 (opposite of MCCT3) after the First-Year Forum to train with your team. Attached are the training slides from last week.

Best wishes for a productive week :)

Regards,
Julia
