Hey debaters! It's time for your weekly dose of debating-related news.
1) INTERNALS As usual, debating is on this Tuesday and Friday evenings - you should know the deal by now, but if not: Tuesday Session: 6pm, The Tank, for semi-experienced to experienced people. Friday Session: 6pm, Manning Clarke, for totally new debaters. Tuesday people, please fill out this form before you come! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1wwMvQJt26AaDzN6mi7q8eyf4VeuZuGsdRpNqpI6Tlfw/viewform?c=0&w=1 2) EASTERS TRIALS The Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships, affectionately known as Easters, is the first and biggest intervarsity debating competition of the year! It is going to be held from 28th-31st March (Week 7), in Melbourne. Easters is a super fun event, and it's also a great opportunity for development because, like our Grand Slam competition on the weekend, it is pro-am format (which means that novices get paired with experienced debaters). Registration is approximately $400 (which includes accommodation for the week), but you have to organise your own travel. We are holding trials to select people to attend Easters and pair people up in teams. I would really recommend that you trial to go to Easters, even if you don't end get selected, because a) you never know what will happen! and b) it's great practice for the future. Details about the trials are available on the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/158311794555483/ In brief, we will be running trials on weeknights this week (Wednesday/Thursday/Friday) with callbacks this Saturday. 3) ACTDU ACCREDITATION The ACT Debating Union runs a competition for school students in the ACT all year round, which members of ANU Debating are able to adjudicate at. This Sunday ACTDU is running an adjudicator accreditation program - if you want to adjudicate at the schools competition (and get the moulah $$) then you have to attend this! It is happening this Sunday from 10am to 2pm in Copland G039. If you have any questions, direct them to the ACTDU President Campbell Melrose. 4) WOMEN Debating women, don’t forget to sign up to get mentored/be a mentor in our new women’s program! This is a great way for new female identifying debaters to meet older students they can get to know and ask questions of! It will be really fun, casual, and an awesome way to meet http://goo.gl/forms/6L9vmwDyyr If you are not new and you’re keen to be a mentor yourself then please fill out this form: http://goo.gl/forms/3McP83ZJFv Another big week in debating! Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions. Have a beautiful week and see you tomorrow. Phyllie
